Pinn-it Bash/ FMX East Challenge Dodd City Aug 28th

2010 Pinn-it Bash/FMX East Challenge
part of the AFMXA Moto X Challenge series

Last weekend Aug 28th was the second round of the Moto X Challenge series in Dodd City TX. We had perfect weather and a good rider turn out. This is the third year Dan Weeks (owner Pinn-it.com) has held an amateur contest at his house/riding spot. Last year was the first year we made it apart of the FMX East Challenge series, this year the event got even more important to amateur freestyle riders when it was made one of the stops of the AFMXA’s Moto X Challenge series.

With points and a series championship on the line riders are now starting to fallow the contests and fighting for every position. Many of the riders that competed in round one (FreestyleMTX Open) also showed up at the Pinn-it Bash despite lenthy drives to get there. Most notably Deake Hinton drove to the Freestyle MTX open in TX from Colorado, after placing second there he decided to come compete at the Pinn-it bash. The gamble is paying off, with two 2nds Deake is now the novice points leader. Super pumped and not a millionaire Deake immediatly called friends and posted on facebook that he would be taking donations to help him get to the Casey, IL round. Long story short his friends and family heeded the call and now Deake is all set to head to IL and defend his points lead. Two other Novice class notables are Alton Brown (round 1 winner) who came out swinging in Dodd City with a bunch of new tricks since the FMTX Open. Unfortunately Alton was taken out of the final after a get off resulting in a broken collar bone. The other is Dave “Davi J” Johnson who didn’t have the best showing at the FMTX Open but came to Dodd City with one event under his belt and a calmer demeanor witch resulted in his first win. Both Alton and Davi are right around 15 yrs old, I see this rivalry continuing for many years to come.

The amateur class had no repeat competitors from the FMTX Open however the action was no less exciting. Although they didn’t go to round one this year neither Mark “Weetle” Merrix or Cody “McAwesome” Lookingbill are newbies to these contests. Both competed in FMX East Challenge events last year. Mark was actually the novice FMX East Challenge series champion from last year. The competition was tight but Mark ended up edging out Cody for the win.

Last was the Expert class Both 1st (Josh Wilson) and 3rd (Ed Rossi) from the FMTX Open were on hand to fight for some much needed points. Josh left round one with the points lead and a fire lit under his butt. You know what they say about fire “some times you get burned” while practicing flips in a foam pit Josh landed hard and injured his back. Fighting through pain Josh came to salvage points and do what he could despite the injury. Ironically the third place finish in round one also lit a fire under Rossi’s butt. Ed was playing for keeps in Dodd City, coming out with new flip variations and tricking every hit on the course. The end result was a complete reversal of placement. Josh got 3rd and Ed got 1st sandwiching Robbie King who got 2nd. So now going into round 3 Josh and Ed are tied for first place with both planning to be in Casey, IL this weekend things are heating up!

Two other things stand out in my mind from the weekend. One was getting to meet and judge with former snowboard world champion and Crusty Demon veteran Tex Davenport. The other was a conversation I had with Davi J. It wasn’t even what he said but the ear to ear grin he couldn’t wipe off his face the entire time we talked. Seeing how happy he was to be there made me so pumped I can’t even tell you! At that moment I realized all the hard work was paying off and that these events were starting to mean as much to these kids as they do to me!

Hope to see everyone in Casey, IL!!

STOMPGRIP traction pad/seat cover review

STOMPGRIP Traction Pads and seat cover review

I’m an “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it” type of person. I remember having my racing friends make fun of me because I showed up to The Broome Tioga National in August with stock bars. I had ridden the bike all year and hadden’t bent the bars, so I felt it was unnecessary to change them.

However I have found some things that just make you feel more comfortable. STOMPGRIP traction pads and seat covers are one of those things. I had my doubts, the studs on them seemed kinda tall. I’m not really sure exactly what i thought was going to happen but I can tell you what did happene.. More control and grip of my motorcycle is what happened.

First impression was, wow this seat is tacky. Sit down and thats where you are going to stay. Seriously get on the gas hard enough and it will nearly pull your pants down.. lol

Next thing was the Traction pads on the side panels and air box. I Just happen to cut out most of my airbox so I am missing a big chunck of traction pad. With that said the traction pads are awesome. They aren’t so abrasive that you get hung up on them, they just provide a nice secure feel of your bike. The traction pads are rubber so you don’t have to worry about ripping your pants.

Overall I think Dave and the guys at Stomp Design have come up with a great product. This is a simple and inexpencive way to gain more confidence and control while on your bike. Go to, http://www.stompdesign.com/

Bristol and X Games

Posted by Clint in Uncategorized

Bristol and X Games

This past week we had a show at Bristol Motor Speedway on Thursday for the Thompson Metal Monster Truck Madness. Thursday also marked the first day of the 2010 summer X Games. I was unable to go to X because of the show. (gotta make that money)

Bristol was a blast as always, we have been doing all Bristol’s events with freestyle for the past 3 years. The staff there has become our friends, its pretty cool to go to such a well known facility like that and feel right at home. We pulled in Thursday morning and got set up, after we were set up I decided to warm up my bike. After clearing my bike out on pit road I thought i would just blast around the track once. I just cruised the straight a ways and blasted the turns. The turns are so steep I had my bike completely tapped out in 5th in them. When I finished my lap I realized Ed had fallowed me around. This prompted Travis to do some laps, so 10 minutes later my one lap turned into 10. Ed actually wheelied around the whole track, I however just went really fast in the turns. haha The show went well and we had a blast riding. It seemed as though the crowd had fun too, sounds like a job well done to me.

With the show done it was time to catch up on some X Games. This is the first time we have had some true east coast guys in X. Brody Wilson was in freestyle and Rich Kearns was in best trick. I am good friends with both guys and have spent years on tour with them. It was really great to see my homies in the mix. Brody got 13th in freestyle and Rich got 6th in best trick. Both of these guys definitely deserve to be there. Congrats guys and great job!

Jammin at the “Stash”

Posted by Clint in practice

Today Paul Smith, Ed Rossi, Kyle Lee and I had a nice little practice session. We finally got the water pump set up and hosed down the course. With no dust it was a pretty awesome day of riding prior to the rain. It was the first time Paul had ridden the Secret Stash in over four years. It was good to have Kyle and Paul jammin with us! Here are some pics but they are off my phone so don’t get too excited.
